Newcomer novelist Yannis Makridakis was born in 1971 in Chios and studied Mathematics.
Since 1997, when he founded the Centre for Chian Studies, the purpose of which is to research, record, study and disseminate Chian documentation,
he has been organising the Centre's research and educational programmes, editing its publications and running the trimonthly journal
Pelinneo (Πελινναίο).
He has written the books
• 10.516 days: A History of Modern Greek Chios 1912-1940, historical narrative (published by the Centre of Chios Studies Pelinneo,2007)
• His first novel One and a Half Tin Cans, Hestia 2008,
has made seven editions so far, and in 2009 was translated in Turkish.
• His novella The Clerical Froak-coat's Right Pocket, Hestia 2009, is already in its sixth edition.
• His third novel Biting Sun, Hestia 2010, is already in its third edition.
• His book with personal testimonies from refugees and soldiers of Chios gone to the Middle East In or Out the Barbed Wire, was republished
by Hestia in 2010.
